Comments(0) It’s good to see that the Coalition Goverment is putting strong support in place for major cities like Manchester. The new Cities Minister Greg Clark will report to the Business Secretary Vince Cable as well as Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg’s Ministerial Advisory Group on Cities – putting a strong focus on the economic development of cities.
I welcome the appointment of Lord John Shipley, Liberal Democrat former Leader of Newcastle Council, as an advisor to the Cities Minister. John is a strong northern voice for cities with a proven track record of good city leadership in Newcastle. Lord Mike Storey, former Liverpool Council Leader, takes John Shipley’s place as a member of the Independent Advisory Group which makes recommendations on bids to the Regional Growth Fund.
John and Mike know their stuff on city development and hopefully we can make the most of their knowledge and expertise to build on Manchester’s progress.
